I am a journalist and writer covering all aspects of teaching and learning -- the pre-school years, primary and secondary education, university, further education and skills training, and adult education.

Particular areas of interest include early years education, family issues, home-school links, the teaching of social and emotional skills, gender issues in education and education in the developing world.

I contribute to national newspapers and magazines in the UK, and publications in other countries.

My book Help Your Child Succeed At School is a comprehensive parents' guide to raising confident, happy children who are able to reach their full potential in the classroom - much informed by the experience of bringing up my own three children. I have also contributed to books on classroom excellence and school leadership.

My work includes editorial consultancy, helping educational organisations clarify their messages.

I have post-graduate degrees from Cambridge and London, and have spent time working as a journalist based in Africa, the Middle East and the United States. I am a former senior editor and US editor of The Times Educational Supplement, and for nine years wrote a weekly education advice column called Quandary in The Independent.

This experience led me to train as a personal development coach and I now divide my time between coaching and writing. My coaching clients include many parents and people working in education. Details can be found at:
